The inspiration behind this body of work comes from a personal interest to play with faces and bodies found in old guitar magazines from the nineties and early 2000s. The images I kept coming across were mostly male musicians with long hair, flaunting their guitars in heroic guitar solos and daring stance.
The aesthetic in those magazines that I grew up with was clearly led by the bad boys dominating the music scene. How these musicians portrait themselves and how the women who occasionally appeared there, were depicted is yet something I would like to explore in the future.
However, for this first series I decided to adventure into this manly aesthetic and glamourise it a bit using a colour palette that is found in the glam rock era: bright pinks and orange, metallic silver, glitter and sequins. Glam up and scroll down dear…
